Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION TITLE: CRANE RIGGER

BASE SUPPORT VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT – CRANE OPERATIONS

POSITION REPORT TO: RIGGER IN CHARGE

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for carrying out the assignments from the RIC including assisting the crane operator in performing the pre-use check of the crane; proper gear selection and inspection before use; safe rigging of the load; and keeping the RIC informed of questionable conditions associated with the operation.
  • Responsible for communicating crane movements with the crane operator.
  • Determining the weights of loads.
  • Determining the center of gravity of loads.
  • Planning the crane/load path and checking for clearances.
  • Selecting and properly using appropriate rigging equipment.
  • Basic knots bend, and hitches and their use.
  • Performing necessary calculations to determine the allowable capacity of rigging configurations.
  • Select appropriate attachment points on loads to be lifted.
  • Performing prior-to-use visual inspections of rigging equipment.
  • Signal person functions as noted below, including construction signal person as appropriate.
  • Coordinating activities of other personnel assisting in the lift (when designated as RIC).
  • General knowledge of mobile crane configuration variations and load chart limitations.
  • The requirements of section 10 (as applicable to riggers) and section 14 of this publication.
  • Rail switch alignment requirements (as applicable).
  • Requirements for inspecting the crane travel path.
  • Proper tagline handling methods.

  • Proper crane communications, i.e., hand signals (see figures 10-1 and 10-2), radio communications, etc.
  • Methods for initiating emergency stop actions and an understanding of when such actions are appropriate.
  • Adheres to company policy, as described in NAVFAC P-307 work instructions and compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor, Crane Operations, and Base Support Vehicle & Equipment (BSVE) Transportation Manager.

BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be trained and capable of being certified IAW NAVFAC P-307.
  • Must be familiar with the use of hand signals IAW NAVFAC P-307, Figures 10-1 and 10-2 and 29 CFR, Chapter XVII, for Slings and other related equipment and devices.
  • Must know, understand, and be competent in the types of signals used.
  • Must have a basic understanding of equipment operation and limitations, including the crane dynamics involved in swinging and stopping loads and boom deflection from hoisting loads.
  • Must know and understand the relevant requirements for radio, telephone, or other electronic transmissions of signals as applicable.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of all safety directives and policies regarding the operation of equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper securing methods for various types of cargo; using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, and/or covers.
  • Knowledge of proper rigging techniques for lifting objects and materials.
  • Must speak, read, and understand the English language.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with the following license codes (2 & 3 or B, B1, B2, C, D) and be able to operate the assigned vehicles.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

EDUCATION:

  • Must have at least a high school diploma is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a minimum of five (2) years of rigging experience in crane operations.

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $770.40 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday,

will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.

  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
