Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe and proper operation, preventive and corrective maintenance of the Ultra High-Pressure Hydro blasting equipment used in preservation, maintenance, and repair services requirement of Military Sealift Command (MSC) vessels and prepositioned ships in Diego Garcia, that are either leased to the US Government or owned by the United States Government. Work includes but are not limited to:
    1. Operation of the hydro blasting equipment and performance of assigned scheduled (PMS) maintenance requirements in accordance with manufacturer’s O&M manual and applicable procedures.
    2. Overhaul or repairs, diagnosing and operational test of the equipment after repairs or overhaul, to demonstrate satisfactory performance of unit.
    3. Mandatory usage of various precision measuring tools such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, depth gauges, torque wrenches; and various portable power tools such as drills, grinders, sanders, and impact wrenches in the performance of work. Logging and documentation of critical mechanical parts or equipment inspections/diagnosing/repair/overhaul, parts measuring and tests.
    4. Identifies material or equipment parts requirement to accomplish maintenance/repair tasks. Provides input to MSC Support Superintendent, for the procurement of required materials.
    5. Always maintains awareness to job safety requirements and keeps all work areas clean & in good housekeeping. Works in the environment of shipboard hazards and operating machinery.
  • Part of Riding Gang onboard ships while deployed away from Diego Garcia on an as needed basis to continue maintenance requirements began while anchored in the lagoon.
  • Personnel is required to work for an additional two (2) hours every regular working day, as an expected requirement delineated under Spec Item 3.4.2 of Annex-06 Contract.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Thorough knowledge in maintenance, operation, and repair/overhaul of diesel engines, and has working knowledge in removal/installation/alignment of machineries and industrial equipment.
  • Working knowledge in operation and maintenance of high-pressure hydro blasting equipment.
  • Familiar with shipboard mechanical systems.
  • Must speak, read, and understand English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel), Personnel Qualification Standard for Ship Maintenance and Material Management (3M) System.

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate and vocational course gasoline or diesel engines mechanic.
  • A degree in engineering or formal schooling/apprenticeship course in inside machinist/mechanic is preferred but not necessary.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three (3) year experience as Marine Mechanic in Naval Ship Repair Facility or commercial shipyard and at least one (1) year experience in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure hydro blasting equipment.

 

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $656.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
  • Updated covid vaccination certificate
  • Medical exam report at a date to be advised.
