Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION TITLE: MARINE LABORER / LINE HANDLER

POSITION REPORT TO: MARINE PAINTER / SANDBLASTER SUPERVISOR

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The incumbent provides manual labor services and assists the skilled tradesmen for the completion of tasks mainly in painting & sandblasting and other works such as; ship line handling, carpentry, mechanical, rigging, structural/piping repairs, electrical, supply, dry-docking and undocking of boat/craft and shipboard cleaning and preservation work.
  • Performs line handling services for ships mooring/unmooring, to and from piers.
  • Assists journeyman in preparation and loading of sandblasting grits into the sandblasting pots, installation and connection sandblasting hoses and nozzles. Assists journeyman in accomplishing repairs necessary on sandblasting equipment and other task.
  • Performs masking and blanking of critical surfaces of equipment for protection. Performs bailing out/removal of sandblasting grit inside the small boats, tugboats, barges, and ships, cleaning, and preparation of surfaces for the application of paint, enamel, varnish or other protective/preservative coatings on equipment, boats, barges and shipboard works.
  • Assists the journeyman in sandblasting operations on vessels and industrial plant equipment under FFP maintenance work projects cognizant to A-06 Port Operations and all related preservation work/activities, including but not limited to:
    • Surface preparation and preservation of rusted/corroded/damaged or worn-out coatings of interior and exterior structures, machinery, cradles and various foundations of the vessel.
    • Mixing of epoxy and non-epoxy primer paints, epoxy topcoat paint and all preservative compound preparation or color mixing in accordance with U.S. Navy acceptable standards and applicable procedures.
    • Application of preservatives on prepared surfaces or repair of damaged coatings following the existing or required paint coating scheme and schedules, i.e., marine primer to enamel, primer to non-slip coating compounds, anti-fouling or bituminous compounds, varnish, etc.
    • Carries out proper maintenance, uses and operations of various painting tools and equipment to accomplish surface preparations and preservation.
  • Maintains awareness of safety requirements and all work areas clean and in good housekeeping.
  • Performs other duties as required to support contract requirements of A-06.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Should be able to speak, read, and understand English language.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Any special certification training, but not necessary.

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate and vocational or apprenticeship course of any trade is desired.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of six months to one-year experience in trade areas mentioned.

 

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $500.40 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
  • Updated covid vaccination certificate
  • Medical exam report at a date to be advised.
