LCM BOAT ENGINEER

Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION TITLE: LCM BOAT ENGINEER

POSITION REPORT TO: SENIOR (SR.) CAPTAIN, LCM

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works onboard craft and responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of Mechanized Landing Craft (LCM) propulsion engine, machineries and auxiliary equipment. Work includes but are not limited to:
    • Pre-operational check, during operation and after operation checks of Diesel Engines; propulsion/steering/ramp systems; hydraulic and fuel systems, and all other auxiliary equipment of each boat run.
    • Performance of assigned scheduled (PMS) maintenance requirements on boat and onboard craft equipment.
    • Troubleshooting, repair and diagnosing engines and equipment operation. Records and submits equipment readings, makes adjustments and settings. Monitors and maintains within capabilities all machinery in operational condition while underway.
    • The incumbent is part of the LCM crew that performs the following, in conjunction with various craft operations:
  1. Deployment, repositioning, installation of HP fender backing boards, towing of HP fenders, submarine camels, sea cushion fenders and maintenance of NAVAID and fleet mooring buoys.
  2. Retrieval/Deployment of submarine towed array sonar system (STASS) cable.
  3. Assistance to Navy Underwater Construction Team (NUCT) or other diver inspection teams performing U/W inspection of buoys, piers and markers; and to divers conducting hull cleaning, inspection and U/W jobs for COMPSRON TWO ships.
  4. MWR activities and chartered fishing trips, lagoon water sampling and special runs for VIP repatriations or MEDEVACs.
  5. Installation/positioning/retrieval of oil booms for ships, fuel barges and small craft operations.
  6. Operation of YOS Potable water barge, SWOB, YC-SLOPS and YC-CARGO barge.
  7. Search and Rescue operation and waterborne oil spill response, mitigation, and clean-up.
  8. Emergency requirements and other boat service assistance required in the lagoon.
  9. Fueling of craft in Small Boat Basin (SBB), removal of bilge oily water and cleaning of boat.
  10. Dock and sea trials of LCMs, small boats and service crafts after repair/maintenance.
  11. Mooring and unmooring of ships to/from Fleet Mooring Buoys and support to line handling of ships.
  • Participates in monthly oil spill drill and quarterly oil spill training, and NSF-DG Annual Facility Response Training, accordingly.
  • Maintains awareness to safety requirements and all work areas clean, engine room, lazarette, and in good housekeeping.
  • Perform duties as look-out to assist LCM Captain in the safe operation of LCM/Utility Boats, Rapid Response Skimmer (RRS) and other tasks required to support contract requirements of A-06.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge in maintenance/troubleshooting and operation of boat propulsion diesel engines and various machineries and mechanized equipment.
  • Familiar with shipboard mechanical system.
  • Must speak, read, and understand English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Must pass 2nd Class Swimmer qualification level.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel), Personnel Qualification Standard for Ship Maintenance and Material Management (3M) System.
  • Satisfactory coxswain.
  • First Aid/CPR and 2nd Class Swimmer qualification certificate.
  • Qualification/• NSF-DG Facility Response Training

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate and vocational course related to gasoline or diesel engine repair/mechanic.
  • A degree in engineering or formal schooling/apprenticeship course in inside machinist/mechanic is preferred but not necessary.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three (3) year experience as Marine Mechanic or Boat Mechanic in Naval Ship Repair Facility or commercial shipyard.

 

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $553.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.
