Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION REPORT TO: SENIOR (SR.) CAPTAIN, LCM

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handles and secures mooring and towing lines during berthing/unberthing of craft and part of LCM crew that performs the following, in conjunction with various craft operations:
  1. Loading and off-loading of cargoes/supplies/dumpsters for delivery, from/to ships in the lagoon.
  2. Deployment, repositioning, installation of HP fender backing boards, towing of HP fenders, submarine camels, sea cushion fenders and maintenance of NAVAID and fleet mooring buoys.
  3. Retrieval/Deployment of submarine towed array sonar system (STASS) cable.
  4. Assistance to Navy Underwater Construction Team (NUCT) or other diver inspection teams performing U/W inspection of buoys, piers and markers; and to divers conducting hull cleaning, inspection and U/W jobs for COMPSRON TWO ships.
  5. MWR activities and chartered fishing trips, lagoon water sampling and special runs for VIP repatriations or MEDEVACs.
  6. Installation/positioning/retrieval of oil booms for ships, fuel barges and small craft operations.
  7. Operation of YOS Potable water barge, SWOB, YC-SLOPS and YC-CARGO barge.
  8. Search and Rescue operation and waterborne oil spill response, mitigation, and clean-up.
  9. Emergency requirements and other boat service assistance required in the lagoon.
  10. Fueling of craft in Small Boat Basin (SBB), removal of bilge oily water and cleaning of boat.
  11. Dock and sea trials of LCMs, small boats, and service crafts after repair/maintenance.
  12. Mooring and unmooring of ships to/from Fleet Mooring Buoys and support to line handling of ships.
  • Performs assigned scheduled (PMS) maintenance requirements on boat and onboard equipment, iaw Navy’s 3-M System.
  • Participates in dock and sea trials of LCMs after repair/maintenance, ensuring boats are safe, operational, and seaworthy.
  • Participates in monthly oil spill drill and quarterly oil spill training, and NSF-DG Annual Facility Response Training, accordingly.
  • Helps passengers in boarding and disembarking from craft and ensure that the boat captain is informed/advised of any situation/incidents accordingly.
  • Provides medical first aid assistance and renders CPR to passengers experiencing health or physical difficulties/injuries until the rescue or assistance arrives.
  • In the event the boat captain is physically incapacitated to perform his duties, incumbent operates the radio communication system and maintains constant communication to Port Control Tower reporting and receiving information/instructions, handles the boat safely and in seaworthy manner until the rescue or assistance arrives.
  • Perform duties as look-out to assist LCM Captain in the safe operation of LCM/Utility Boats, Rapid Response Skimmer (RRS) and other tasks required to support contract requirements of A-06.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must speak, read, and understand English language both orally and in writing.
  • Must complete the On-the-job Training (OJT) for LCM Deckhands, including oil spill training.
  • Must have knowledge in Boat Handling and Seamanship Skill, basic radio communications and use of firefighting equipment.
  • Must have knowledge in Medical First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Must pass 2nd Class Swimmer qualification level.
  • Must pass the overseas medical screening and be in good health.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Boat Handling and Seamanship Skill Training.
  • On-the-Job Training for LCM Deckhands.
  • First Aid/CPR certificate and 2nd Class Swimmer certificate.
  • Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel), Personnel Qualification Standard for Ship’s Maintenance and Material (3M) System.
  • NSF-DG Facility Response Training

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate or its equivalent.
  • Attended formal education in maritime studies or equivalent training is preferred but not necessary.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one (1) year experience aboard vessel as Deckhand.

 

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $510.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
  • Updated covid vaccination certificate
  • Medical exam report at a date to be advised.
